As part of my effort to live a more conscious life, I outlined my life goals yesterday from high-level down to what I'd like to accomplish in the next year. I used 4 levels, "top-level goals", "ways to reach top-level goals", "next 5 years", "next 1 year", sort of like what 4HWW calls the 50K feet through 10K feet levels.
My top level goals are:
1. Be happy
2. Change the world
3. Live forever
Pretty simple and utilitarian: (3) is the duration of enjoyment, and I basically think of (1) and (2) as the two components of magnitude for enjoyment, namely Happiness and Satisfaction. Happiness comes more from what I am doing and how I feel, while Satisfaction comes from what I have done. Satisfaction, for me, is necessary for Happiness.
(note: I started typing "Happiness comes more from what you are doing and how you feel", but I'm learning NVC and one thing it teaches is to avoid "you" pronouncements and own your observations, which seems good to me).

I think I might start doing goal-tracking every week on these goals, we'll see...
(SS) Lots of seastead brainstorming, lunch w/ Wayne next week. Exploring ways to carve some book-writing time out of work (can it be a 20% project? Should I go to 80% time?)
(Climb) My bum shoulder has been in one of its every-few-months tight and painful states all week, so climbing is waiting. It's a real bummer I screwed up the hot tub order (we tried to order one for the party, but the order didn't go through and I didn't follow-up to check on it), b/c I sure could use one for therapeutic purposes right now.
(Travel) My off-site was only in Palo Alto, but that's sort of traveling :). Next weekend S will be away & I will be building up travel credits. And I'm looking into a possible work trip to Zurich in August to help facilitate the first leadership workshop out there.
(Poly) Some yummy progress made on this front, but I haven't discussed blog policy w/ the lady yet, so we'll leave it at that ;).
Substantial progress on 2/4 - that's pretty awesome!

I think I'm going to try to change my activities a bit for the next year or so. We're going to try to start the next baby in a few months, which means in about a year or so we'll have a newborn again. But right now we have a son who sleeps through the night and spends lots of time with his beloved nannies, so there's actually some free time and energy to be allocated.
So I'm thinking about resuming some of my favorite enjoyable-but-energy-intensive activities, to wit: finishing the seastead book (1), rock climbing (2), travelling (3), and chasing women (4). We'll see whether it works or not - it's possible that I will have time but not energy and just end up resting and recovering. Which is fine too - if that's what my body needs, that's what it should get. But I'd prefer to have fun :).
(1) I'm happy with my decision to not try a seastead startup now, but it does make sense to get the book out there percolating the idea ASAP.
(2) I expect I'll probably climb mainly with Shannon for the next few months, but once she's pregnant I will need climbing partners.
(3) Flipside at the end of May, WSOP in June, LA/SD in July, maybe NYC after that?
(4) Cuz my poly filter needs some action!
