It is very rare that I get an email forward that I find useful/valuable. But this one was an exception. It's about how the standard earthquake safety (under a desk, in a doorway) is totally wrong. The physics of this articles claims make a lot of intuitive sense to me: voids in a collapsed building occur *next to* things which *aren't fully crushed*. You don't want to get inside something which is going to be partially crushed, as it will partially crush you. You want to be next to it.
