The day started off great, I put my ipod on shuffle all songs, and it played "Floating City" by Tori Amos, which I had totally forgotten about (she wants to be taken away to my floating city!), which felt nicely symbolic.

A lot of people I like are here, so great conversations and hanging out. (Got to reconnect a little w/ John Trager, who I hadn't seen in 10+ years since we were both short, roller-blading, skirt-chasing Mudders from Philly).

The talks, sadly, have not been very compelling to me. Fortunately, candid saved the day - his 4pm talk was the one I was most excited about for today, and it did not in the least disappoint. It was 80 slides of religion-mocking hilarity in 15 minutes. I haven't laughed that much in awhile - truly a delightful experience. Also, he made excellent use of slides.

Anyway, looking forward to dinner & hanging out tonight, and some good talks tomorrow!

Apparently BIL is full (how can an unconference be full?), which is promising in one sense (there was lots of interest) but sad in another (the energy of potential attendees dissipating uselessly and frustratingly).

But since I'm driving down there to visit Shannon anyway, and it's a lovely day and I want to feel the wind in my hair as I twist and turn on the 17 in my lovely new car, not be cooped up inside, and Monterey is a pretty place, I'm just gonna head down there anyway. I figure there are probably other people in the same situation.

My plan is to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. If I meet other attendees (or would-be attendees) there, great. If not, I'll just have a great time at the Aquarium!
