Gratitude comedy

A lot of comedy seems to be about cynicism - pointing out how awful or stupid things are. I love this segment by Louis CK, because it's comedy about gratitude - about acknowledging how awesome technology and human progress are rather than taking them for granted. It's cynical only in making fun of people who take too much for granted.

I fucking love Louis CK and I was this before and I totally agree.

I always marvel at technology. I'm only 21, but the changes I've seen are amazing. Considering my parents and grandparents it's astounding. I never lose the sense of wonder and enjoyment I get from contemplating the amazing things around and the great people who helped them be there.

Like Louis, I wish more people cherished our achievements.

It's an interesting mental exercise to think about what people from 2030 would whine about if they were suddenly dropped into 2008.

Slow Internet access with poor coverage. The limited range of online content offerings. Driving.

And a wearisome necessity to interact with the "real" world.

I don't know, I find people's ability to instantly adapt to new technology and whatnot to be rather endearing. And on a practical level, someone who sat in awed shock on every airplane ride would hardly be able to function in modern society at all, and ever less so with time.

I mean, if we couldn't accept and integrate a new technology within ten seconds like that guy on the airplane, how could we ever hope to survive the Singularity? :)

Love the cynicism
I think that technology has also made it too easy to cause harm to an individual from thousands of miles away by digitally stealing their identity and exploiting it. For more about privacy you might want to read http://blog.arzoola.com

We are currently playing a roleplaying game set in (I think) 1997. We've all been surprised by how hard it is to go back, technology-wise.

He's absolutely correct, but i think it's the American culture of cynical dissatisfaction that has made it the technological leader over the past 100 years. Having a Buddhist philosophy of contentedness makes people happier, but it's not terribly motivational.
