whine: Shoe size consistency

REI doesn't have my size in stock (its in a gap between kids and male adults), so I bought 2 pairs of shoes mail order. Similar styles, different manufacturers (Teva, Merrill). I got them both in size 7. They have arrived, and one feels a half size too large, while the other feels a half size too small. Sigh. It would be less annoying if they were off in a consistent fashion, thus the mistake would not reoccur with future purposes.

Bought two pairs of boots, same size, same make, diff colour.
they (felt) two sizes wrong in both directions.

So I sent them back, ordered again by offsetting each in the opposite direction of size. they came, and were perfect, but are labeled 2 sizes off.
